CODISSIA is a non-profit service organization which was established in the year 1969 with just 40 members of small scale entrepreneurs with the main aim to serve for the growth and uplift of the small scale industries. With the dedicated and sincere efforts, CODISSIA is serving the small scale industries in this region and it has now grown with member strength of more than 4000 in the roll.

NEED FOR A PERMANENT TRADE FAIR COMPLEX AT COIMBATORE:
Trade Fairs serve as a window to show case the latest technology, transfer of know-how, increase business potential, introduction of new products to market etc., In the early days, majority Codissians used to visit the trade fairs at the metropolis like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and other prominent cities. Occasionally, they used to visit Hannover in Germany also which were all very much useful to the Small Scale Sector. For the benefit of the small scale entrepreneurs, CODISSIA took initiative to conduct fairs of their own at Coimbatore. To start with, CODISSIA conducted an entrepreneurs’ development exhibition “ENDEX” in January 1982 which met with the desired success. This fair was instrumental in establishing about 450 small industries in Coimbatore District.

After a few years, CODISSIA was exploring the possibility of conducting a mega event to promote industrial development in this region; hence conceived a Trade Fair with International participation. This fair – “INTEC” was successfully conducted in the beginning of the year 1988. CODISSIA then became as a pioneer in conceiving the idea of conducting Trade Fairs in the South. Earlier only metros like Delhi and Mumbai had the privilege of conducting trade fairs.

Enthused by the success of INTEC 1988, CODISSIA organized four International Trade Fairs – INTEC in the years 1988, 1991, 1994 & 1997. All these INTEC Trade Fairs, no doubt, led to a grand success to impart the desired results such as technological innovations, launching of new products and serve as a centre for cementing business tie-ups. These Trade Fairs were conducted in an area of 12 acres of land at the PSG Tech Grounds, Peelamedu, Coimbatore with a total covered area of one lakh Sq.Ft make-shift structures. This involved cumbersome procedures and practical execution problems.

To overcome the practical difficulties in the construction, dismantling etc., of the make-shift structures, and the need for a World Class permanent venue for Trade Fairs at Coimbatore prompted CODISSIA to establish a permanent Trade Fair Complex at Coimbatore as their own at Coimbatore. Since Coimbatore has already established itself as a Centre for trade Fairs in South, there had been excellent scope for future Trade Fairs of different concepts, which can be held in our permanent Trade Fair Complex. Here, it is necessary to add that so far no other city in South was able to conduct Industrial Fair, matching the magnitude and sophistication of the INTEC Fairs, or possessing a permanent Trade Fair Complex.

This prompted CODISSIA to build this modern state of the art "Codissia Trade Fair Complex" with 1800 KVA power back-up. Accordingly, COINTEC the acronym for Codissia Intec Technology Centre, a non-profit charitable trust, was formed by CODISSIA in the year 1995 and this dream project’s 1st phase was started in the year 1999 July and completed with the construction of Hall A, B & C within a record time of 155 days, covering an area of 10,000 Sq.Mtrs. Subsequently, due to the demand, the Phase II Project was taken up with 10,000 Sq.Mtrs space with Halls D, E and a separate Food Court was constructed within a record time of 144 days in the year 2008.

CODISSIA have been regularly conducting “INTEC” International Engineering Trade Fair which is the flagship fair of CODISSIA and this has acclaimed international importance for more than two decades. In addition to the above, they are conducting “AGRI INTEX” – Agricultural International Exhibition, “BUILD EXPO” – Building and Construction Industry Expo, “FABINTEC” – covering fabrication and welding in addition to a few other fairs on Travel & Tourism, Hospitality, and “SUBCON” – Engineering Sub-Contracting. All the above events have gained overall appreciation and patronage from all the concerned spheres. Some of the Events held in the Codissia Trade Fair Complex, in detail are as under:-

Apart from this, many events connected with the different field of operations and many events and conferences are taking place in this venue, drawing people from different regions of our country and abroad.

Since the launch of the trade fair complex in the year 2000, industrial as well as export growth in this region had grown tremendously and consistently. Events organized at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex had helped to boost up exports of various commodities and products from Coimbatore region due to the significant presence of exporters who participated/visited the fairs and potential foreign buyers.

In order to house a permanent Product Display Centre, Convention Centre to accommodate about 1500 delegates etc., now, the Phase III Project is given a shape and work would be started soon.
